  A perfect retreat after the lockdown. Stayed for two days at the Presidential Suite at Riff Hikkaduwa and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from start to finish.

We were... read more welcomed upon arrival with a refreshing drink and then guided to our rooms after a very quick & convenient check-in process. The room was very spacious with our own living room and kitchenette. The bathrooms were also very modern and had all the amenities for our stay including tea & coffee and a fully-equipped minibar. The highlight of the room was our private rock salt pool located on the balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean. The sunset was magical from the balcony and should definitely not be missed.

The highlight of our stay was the amazing food we were served for all three meals. For dinner, we opted to eat at the Japanese restaurant and this is easily one of the best places in Sri Lanka to indulge in Japanese Cuisine. Had a three course meal accompanied by an Arrack cocktail. The starters consisted of an assortment of sushi and fresh seafood platters followed by a chicken katsu curry full of flavour and finished the meal off with a freshly baked cheescake.

For breakfast the hotel did not have the standard buffet but rather an A la carte menu with each item made to the highest quality and perfection. We opted for an assortment of pastries and bread along with the signature Eggs Benedict which is a must-try at this hotel and finished the meal with freshly prepared waffles with chocolate sauce. It was a perfect start to the day. For lunch we had the option to indulge in fresh seafood caught on the day along with other options. All the food were made to order and we were clearly able to see the difference between a normal buffet and the food served to us which was prepared to the highest quality.

All the staff were friendly and provided us with amazing service. Overall, we were completely satisfied with the hotel and the food and cannot wait to be back again.

He took such good care of us throughout and went the extra mile to make sure we had a nice romantic dinner. The GM as well, Sharm, was very attentive and ensured we were well taken care of. Overall a beautiful experience. If there was one area which has room to improve it would be the menu and the food. I felt the dinner menu was pretty basic and sadly the pol rotti we had for breakfast was rock hard. Again overall the food was ok but since everything else about the place is outstanding I feel they have the opportunity to make this area excellent as well.

We really enjoyed the view from the patio over the lovely Pool with the ocean towards the horizon. It felt like we had our own private villa. All this was topped by the manager Sunil and his great staff who did more than anyone could expect to make us feel comfy and, sorry to say so: spoiled. We were treated like loyal guests.
Last but not least there is the excellent seafood served by the cooks. Freshly prepared right from the Fish market and served at night on the patio to the rolling waves of the ocean, what else could you ask for?
We will highly treasure the stay in Villa Saffron and if possible, we would love to come again.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. Mr. Indika, one of the front office members gets a special mention for being so professional, genuinely sweet, caring and attentive - throughout the whole stay as well as before arrival, helping me with the booking process (also being well-oriented in the current rules and travel conditions). I doubt that I will ever experience such a high and personal level of service ever again (until we return).

The staff is what makes Riff Hikkaduwa so special - always happy, always pleasant, always helpful. I would like to mention our other personal favourites, but it would be unfair to mention some and forget others as all the staff are highly professional, helpful, punctual, and hard-working, serving and assisting with a big smile on their faces. Everyone looked after us amazingly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing with plenty of choice. The resort was so perfectly clean and a big thank you to everyone for making our holiday so special.

Well done, we could run out of superlatives describing how perfect this hotel is and we would be delighted to meet again next year.

The Hotel is... read more spotless and the grounds are beautifully maintained , the pool is cleaned every day , there are comfortable sun beds with pads and towels are provided .
The food is beautiful both a selection of traditional Sri Lankan and western dishes .
The food is freshly cooked by wonderfully confidant and skilled kitchen team .
You can even have Sunday lunch should you wish we had it it was brilliant
We had the Jasmine room which was well appointed with a lovely veranda overlooking the lake which is situated next to the hotel .
It was wonderful to see a beautiful selection of parrots king fishers being our morning visitors
Dale the owner greeted us on arrival with complimentary drinks the staff could not do enough for you .
Dale arranged a fantastic trip to Ella taking in the local National Park which was wonderful seeing a host of animals in their natural environment Crocodiles Elephants Water Buffalo Mongoose Hawks , Eagles to mention just a few .
Dale sorted all transfers for us from airport .
We had the most amazing New Year at the Riff Hotel well worth a visit for the sunsets

Because of that we booked the room the night before (as you can image, if you have to travel for 20+ hours you do not want to wait until 2 PM). Once we arrived, we heard the hotel had a no show. Please confirm your no show on booking.com reservation as Lucky Elephant already have acknowledged a no show to booking.com. Initially we did not want to do this, as this has been booked via Booking.com. But as it was a no show we eventually did say no show to booking.com.
However... the day we have missed (the no show day) was still part of the bill. (we found out later) therefore this not so good review. please watch out with the tricks this hotel is applying to guest. even if you have been awake for more than 24 hours...
Also.. if you have cocktails or other drinks... the delivery costs of 10% are not made clear upfront or noted at all.
So to keep things short.. nice hotel.. but if they can ripe you they will. (that is my general feeling after one week)

  We were looking for a ‘chilled’ spring break in the sun and stumbled across the Lucky Elephant in our search ..... thank goodness!! This is modern, small ‘on the beach’... read more hotel in the south west corner of the island about 2 hours from the airport. We couldn’t praise the accommodation and service more highly! The hotel is beautifully clean and the staff are exemplary! The pool is great, but the sea is better! Just be wary of the power of the waves!! And whatever you do, make sure you book a massage with Sarath, he is so good!!
Definitely worth a visit!! We will return!!

We were a bit hesitant traveling with 2 small babies on our own, but the hotel staff were very accommodating going to the extent of serving our meals in the most romantic places within an ear shot of our room. The property itself is unique with different levels. Designed really well. Aimed at tranquility, there is no tv in the room. We barely noticed though as the outdoors had the nicest view.

Food was freshly made and delicious. The chef was very accommodating of our needs. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The spa is staffed with well experienced staff to give an added indulgence.

Call ahead for directions though. The place can be hard to find.

  So…… This is actually our third stay at Riff. This time it was for 11 nights. Communication between myself and the hotel direct was fantastic, went for the hotel pick... read more up from Colombo airport. Very nice guy and was waiting as we exited the airport with a name board. Very easy. We had a new junior suite and the room is huge as-well as the great view from the glass balcony. Bed very comfortable (pillows super soft) turn down service every night. I still think the products could be better but they’re refills at least.

We went full board as we needed a rest and know how good the food is. You literally can’t fault any of the food. Different menu everyday with generous portions. Infact we are not big eaters so sometimes we would only have 2 courses of the 5 courses available every evening. Endless fantastic tea because the owner also owns a tea plantation which produces the best tea in Sri Lanka (Basular) . The service could be slow and confusing sometimes, now and again the order was wrong. But the staff are so accommodating and super friendly. And the new rooftop canoe restaurant is so so good.

The only constructive feedback I’d leave would be the music in the restaurant and rooftop isn’t great they need to have a wider range which could fit with the time of the evening. On the rooftop it has so much potential of being really cool but the music and lighting let it down slightly. And on 2 evenings they had live music but there was no advertising on this we wasn’t told that this was happening we just happen to hear it.

This is literally the best hotel which will live up to every expectation.
